Flores
After leaving Belize via the border near Benque, I and a French couple took a collectivo on the Guatemalan side to Flores. Note: Do not get yourself talked into a taxi ride from the Guatemalan border station into town. It's a very short walk across a nice bridge. They'll try. Flores is a nice little island and perfect staging area for tours to the Mayan ruins, or to just relax on. Make sure that you arrange with the collectivo driver to take you to Flores. It will cost a little more but is well worth it. Otherwise you and your luggage will be in Santa Elana, across the causeway, and that's a taxi or tuk tuk ride that will cost you more than the difference in price. |
On the way to Flores from the Guatemalan border town |
Yes, she got in, white tight skirt and all. This is the causeway to Santa Elena |
Immediately across the causeway is a brand new mall. It's an easy walk and worth doing |
At last, arrived and dropped off outside of the guesthouse in Flores |
For a moment there I thought this was the Pyramid of the Moon, but I was wrong, it's the Pyramid ot the Jaguar |
Streets were decorated and garlanded for a religious holiday and procession on the next day |
There were times I'd just sit here on Villa De Lago's terrace, read, have a brew and enjoy the moods of the lake |
There's always something to see or do |
